Pilot job market / Skydiving
The jump pilot job market
Jump pilots fly skydivers to altitude, often many loads a day, in aircraft from Cessna 182s to turboprop Caravans and Twin Otters. The flights are short and repetitive, so a busy season adds up to a lot of time.
Drop zones often hire commercial pilots with modest experience for piston aircraft, while turbine aircraft usually call for more. Outside the warmest states, the work follows the weather and the season.

Before you apply
- A private pilot generally may not fly for compensation, so being paid to fly jumpers requires a commercial pilot certificate. The jump operations themselves follow Part 105.
- Expect a checkout in the drop zone's aircraft and procedures before flying loads on your own.
